Several other core components have been updated

As reported by Softpedia earlier today, April 16, the GNOME Project had the pleasure of announcing the immediate availability of the first maintenance release of the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment.

GNOME 3.16.1 is here to update many core components and applications, including the Evolution email and groupware client, Boxes virtual machine manager, Orca screen reader and magnifier, Software package manager, File-Roller archive manager, and the Gedit text editor.

Evolution 3.16.1 received over 65 bug fixes, GNOME Builder 3.16.1 got a massive update full of new features and improvements, Orca 3.16.1 received a wide variety of improvements, and many changes were implemented in GNOME Boxes 3.16.1.

Additionally, the Mutter 3.16.1 component was greatly improved in the first maintenance release of GNOME 3.16, which also includes a powerful GNOME Control Center app, and an improved GNOME Shell user interface. The GTK+ toolkit and Empathy IM were updated as well.

File-Roller, Gedit, Calendar, and Characters received various improvements

GNOME 3.16.1 also brings an updated File-Roller 3.16.1 archive manager that fixes untranslated entries in Nautilus menus, missing string format argument in gtk-utils, and provides a symbolic variant of the app icon. GNOME Calendar 3.16.1 was updated as well to block the creation of nameless events.

Gedit 3.16.1 now offers improved error reporting when failing to load private libraries, and includes performance improvements for groups of text deletions and insertions. GNOME Characters 3.16.1 provides better search results, and a crash on invalid clock type in PGN and bad PGN load behavior were fixed in GNOME Chess 3.16.1.

Furthermore, GNOME Clocks 3.16.1 gets new HighContrast SVG icon, GNOME Music 3.16.1 now lets users play favorite songs in Album view, GNOME Software 3.16.1 correctly saves HiDPI images to HiDPI directories and allows users to scroll the contents of the error message dialog.

Last but not least, GNOME 3.16.1 fixes a memory leak in the Iagno game, adds support for highlighting matches in user list search and makes the line indicator dependent on line spacing in the Polari IRC client.
