With GNOME 3.12 fresh of the press, the developers are now looking towards the 3.13 development version, which should culminate with the stable launch of GNOME 3.14 in September.

After a stable version gets released the GNOME developers start the work on the next development version right away. In this case, the development release that we’re talking about is GNOME 3.13 that will be slowly turned into 3.14 in about six months.

“GNOME 3.13.x is an unstable development series intended for testing and hacking purposes. GNOME uses odd minor version numbers to indicate development status, so this unstable 3.13.x series will become the official 3.14 stable release,” reads the official announcement.

A number of features have been defined already. For example, users should be able to browse DLNA Media Servers in GNOME Photos, integrate PicasaWeb in GNOME Photos, Systemd should be implemented for the user session, Colour Tinting in GNOME Shell should be allowed, and Zimbra needs to be integrated in GNOME.

A schedule has been put in place for the developers of GNOME and it’s interesting to see that the stable version of 3.14 is expected to arrive on September 24. These dates are not set in stone, but the general period of release will be respected.
