GFI announced the availability of a new anti-spam defense option for MailEssentials in the fresh update of the platform.

The new release features implementation of multiple antivirus engines for keeping at bay spam messages and malicious software funneled into small and mid-sized businesses (SMB) via email, through the addition of the Avira solution, which replaces Norman antivirus.

By default, GFI MailEssentials relies on antivirus products from Bitdefender and ThreatTrack VIPRE to detect and eliminate malware. Administrators can choose to add multiple engines for enhanced protection by subscribing to services from multiple antivirus solutions.

Previously, McAfee and Kaspersky were on the list, and now the Germany-based Avira has been added, allowing a combination of products to fight against email-borne malware.

Apart from this, administrators are offered a new plug-in component called Intelligent Language Detection. Its purpose is to allow the defining of language-based policies for enhanced spam detection.

The developer also announced that other changes in the new revision of the product refer to speed and performance improvements.

GFI MailEssentials is a subscription-based product and the price for UnifiedProtection, which is the basic version, starts at $19 / €19 per machine for 100-249 desktops. The company also offers 24/7 customer service support.
