One of the most talked about commercials of the summer has just gone (unofficially) platinum online. With almost 16 million views on YouTube, the GEICO Hump Day Commercial is actually getting schools in the US to consider banning the phrase.

Released in May this year, the ad sees a talking camel walking through an office, asking people if they know what day it is. You can see it in full above.

The phrase Hump Day refers to Wednesday, as in, the middle of the working week. It is “used in the context of climbing a proverbial hill to get through a tough week,” Urban Dictionary says.

However, because students in schools have started using it for any day of the week and because school staff believes it has a less-than-innocent connotation, they’re thinking of banning it.

In fact, the Vernon Center Middle School already did, on the grounds that the phrase Hump Day was distracting kids in class and in the hallways. Other schools will probably follow suit.

Check out the ad and let me know what you think: is it really funny or really offensive and, as such, deserving of the planned ban of the phrase Hump Day?
