Everquest gets place in Fall of Fame alongside Ultima

The CGDC Online Awards were revealed and the biggest winners were Minecraft and its developer Mojang, Sony Online Entertainment with a number of its products and Trion Worlds with its MMO Rift.

Best Online Game Design: Spiral Knights from Three Rings Design and Sega Best Online Visual Arts: DC Universe Online by Sony Online Entertainment Best Online Technology: Rift by Trion Worlds Audience Award Winner: Wizard 101 from KingsIsle Entertainment Online Innovation Award: Shadow Cities by Grey Area Best Audio for an Online Game: Clone Wars Adventures from Sony Online Entertainment Best Community Relations: Minecraft from Mojang Best Social Network Game: Gardens of Time by Playdom Best Live Game: Minecraft from Mojang Best New Online Game: Rift by Trion Worlds GDC Online Awards Hall of Fame: Everquest from Sony Online Entertainment

Minecraft managed to pick awards for both categories it was nominated in and Rift was widely seen as one of the best new MMOs to be launched during last year.

Sony meanwhile has shown the diversity of its own portfolio of games, picking up two awards with two very different games.

DC Universe Online is aimed at comic lovers who are also interested in a full fledged MMO experience with superpowered heroes while Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures is mostly aimed at the kids who are hooked on the cartoon series.

Everquest, a game that is still running and getting updates, has also joined Ultima Online, the first true MMO, in the Hall of Fame of the GDC Online event.

At the GDC Online the developers at Blizzard talked about the importance of writers for the success of World of Warcraft while Sony confirmed a number of features for its upcoming PlayStation Vita handheld.

As the name implies GDC Online focuses on experiences that cater to multiple players at the same time in a shared environment.
