Samsung GALAXY Tab, the first tablet PC that South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung brought to the market with Google's Android operating system on board, is available for purchase on the Australian market for only $299 when purchased off contract from Telstra. The tablet PC was launched via the wireless carrier for several months now, and has already seen various price cuts, but nothing as drastic as now.

Only a few weeks ago, the Android device was available for more than $700 outright, but got its price tag slashed to only $408.

Considering that the outright price tag for the device might still be a little to high, Telstra decided to cut it a little more, thus bringing the tablet PC down to only $299.

The Samsung GALAXY Tab comes with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board, while boasting a 7-inch touchscreen display.

According to some, the device is already outdated, even it it was launched on the market only in fall 2010.

The Android tablet PC's specs list also includes:

3 mega-pixel camera with video recording 1.3 mega-pixel camera for video calling Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 5 devices USB tethering Voice, SMS/MMS capable

The tablet PC spots 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded by up to 32GB via microSD memory card slot. The device weighs in at only 390 grams.

At the same time, we should note that the Samsung Galaxy Tab was packed with 3G and WiFi connectivity capabilities, and that it also comes with great multimedia features. It comes with support for Flash too.

“With the Samsung GALAXY Tab it’s easier than ever to browse the web, stream YouTube videos, make calls, send text and download the latest range of apps from the Android Market,” the wireless carrier notes.
