A new software update is now available for download for the owners of a Samsung GALAXY S II on the airwaves of Vodafone in Australia, bringing along a series of fixes for the handset.

The software update started to arrive on mobile phones today, and will be pushed out for all owners of a GALAXY S II at Vodafone as software version DUKH1.

Unlike previous updates for Samsung's Galaxy smartphones, the new firmware was made available both over-the-air, as well as via the Samsung Kies application.

“Great news for Samsung GALAXY S II users who have been experiencing software bugs, including the Wi-Fi tethering (hotspot) data issue,” the wireless carrier notes in a blog post.

“The Gingerbread DUKH1 maintenance release update for the Samsung GALAXY S II, will fix common bugs as well as the intermittent slow data throughput problem which occurs when WiFi tethering (hotspot) is enabled,” the carrier continues.

The new software update for the Samsung GALAXY S II packs the Android 2.3.3 operating system version inside, and sports baseband version I9100TDUKF4.

As stated above, users interested in downloading and installing the new maintenance update for the GALAXY S II at Vodafone will be able to do so through a Windows PC, via the Samsung KIES application. The software can be downloaded from Softpedia via this link.

At the same time, the new update is available as FOTA (Firmware Over The Air), so that users can download and install it directly on their mobile phones.

Before proceeding with the update, users should back up all data on their devices, so as to make sure that no important files there are lost in the process.

“Please make sure your Samsung GALAXY S II is fully charged before updating,” the wireless carrier also notes.

The update is available free of charge, however if you are updating your Samsung GALAXY S II via Samsung KIES it will require Internet connection on your PC to download and install the new update,” Vodafone concludes.
