G-Technology by Hitachi is taking part, as an official Leadership Sponsor, in the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, January 21-31, 2010, in Park City, Utah. Taking advantage of this opportunity, G-Tech has announced a new family of external hard drives aimed at complementing MAC systems. The company has presented two new devices, each with its unique design.
Windows-equipped PCs already have a very wide range of external storage solutions to choose from, be they USB flash drives as small as a coin or portable hard drives that connect through USB or eSATA. The G-DRIVE Mobile USB and G-DRIVE mobile released by G-Tech, however, are not meant for PCs but for Mac systems. Similar in capacity and performance but distinguished from each other through their look and feel, the new gadgets will be cousins to the popular G-DRIVE mini series.
The G-DRIVE mobile USB uses the same silky white design as the MacBook and has a rotary speed of 5400RPM. It provides on the go storage capabilities through its use of the USB 2.0 interface and, furthermore, it has a storage capacity of 500GB. Mac users will be able to store all their favorite music and video files, as well as any documents and files of any other type.
The G-DRIVE mobile features, besides USB 2.0 connectivity, FireWire 800. Unlike the G-DRIVE mobile USB, it comes colored not in silky white but in polished black and silver, making it visually suited to the MacBook Pro. Other than these differences, the G-DRIVE mobile has the same 500GB of storage and 5400RPM speed.
Both new drives are formatted for Macs and support Apple's Time Machine, thus being ready for simple automated backups. The pair will become available around mid-February.
The 500GB G-DRIVE mobile USB will be priced at $139.99, whereas the G-DRIVE mobile will carry a tag of $159.99.
