Whether it's improving battery power, making glasses-free 3D displays or just building Ethernet media converters, Hitachi has not been idle lately and neither have the brands it owns been slacking off. One of them, G-TECHNOLOGY to be exact, has actually just unveiled its latest network-attached storage (NAS) device which, unlike most others, generally meant for media streaming and backup in SoHo networks, is aimed at creative professionals and owners of Mac systems.

The newest product from the Hitachi-owned brand is known as the G-SPEED Q and is designed with four drive bays, each of which can accommodate a hard disk drive with a storage space of up to 2TB. This, naturally, implies that the maximum storage capacity achievable is of 8TB. The drives themselves can be configured, thanks to the internal RAID controller, in RAID 0 or 5 modes. Furthermore, the bays are hot-swappable, which means that, in case of drive failure, said storage unit can be safely removed without turning the NAS off and without affecting the remaining three HDDs.

Unlike other network storage units, which may leave the hard drive to the choice of the end-user, the G-SPEED Q comes equipped with four HDDs from Hitachi, each operating at a platter speed of 7,200RPM and using the SATA interface. As for connectivity and I/O, the G-Technology NAS features eSATA. USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and even FireWire 800, which will let Macs and creative professionals easily access the available data.

The G-SPEED Q is slated to become available for purchase in June, in capacities of 4TB (when four 1TB drives are used) or 8TB (in case four 2TB drives are included). The price tags will be of $899 and $1,499, respectively. In the meantime, interested individuals may find all the information they need on the official product page.
