It's pretty overpowered, all told, but that's okay for laptops like MSI GT70 2OC

SO-DIMM is the memory form factor commonly used in mobile personal computers, and it is that sort of memory that G.Skill has formally introduced, as part of the Ripjaws high-end collection.

Ripjaws has always been G.Skill's hallmark when it comes to ridiculously overpowered RAM (random access memory).

The company makes a point of updating the series every other month, though most of those updates consist of DRAM products for the desktop segment. The top-tier desktop segment to be precise.

Now, though, G.Skill unleashed something for the laptop market, because even notebooks have to be ludicrously fast and capacious from time to time.

So behold the F3-2133C11Q-32GRSL DDR3L DO-DIMM memory kit, which will give your mobile computer 32 GB of RAM to work with.

That's more than a notebook is likely to need, unless you plan to run high-end games in 4K resolution or something along similarly overkill lines.

G.Skill used MSI's GT70 2OC gaming laptop as an example in its press release. As you can see in the screenshot below, the computer is perfectly stable even under extreme load.

Normally, lots of RAM is difficult for motherboards and CPUs/APUs to cope with, and there are even upper capacity limits to consider.

In this case, though, we can say that there isn't much higher that capacity can go. Sure, there are some workstations, mobile and not, that can hold 64 GB, or 128 GB in the case of dual-socket mainboards, but for gaming laptops, 32 GB is about as high as you can go.

As for the rest of the parameters, they are pretty surprising, because a high clock would normally come at the cost of a bigger power specification.

The G.Skill F3-2133C11Q-32GRSL, however, manages to operate at 1.35V even though it works at 2133 MHz. On that note, the latency is of 11-11-11-31.

All in all, the new Ripjaws SO-DIMM memory kit will endow your high-end laptop with the capabilities of a desktop PC, and then some.

Well, you'll have to make sure that said mobile PC has good enough processing and graphics prowess to make the RAM count, but that's the gist of it.

The 32 GB are reached thanks to all four modules having 8 GB, despite the smaller size compared to DIMM. Unfortunately, despite how informative the press release is, G.Skill didn't actually say what monstrous price the new memory possessed. So keep an eye out on your local retailer if you're in the market for something like this.
