Known as the Classified SR-2, this board definitely stood out, not just through the fact that it had two Intel Xeon-ready LGA 1366 CPU sockets, but also because it featured no less than a full 12 DDR3 memory slots. G.Skill just presented a memory kit that can take full advantage of each and every one of those slots.
The DDR3 kit for workstations is composed of 12 modules, each with a capacity of 4GB. This means that end-users will have no less than 48GB to work with. The clock frequency is set at 1,900 MHz, and the CL8 will definitely meet the expectations of any professional. Basically, the product can lead to the creation of the “ultimate super-computer” when combined with Xeon CPUs and four high-end NVIDIA cards in 4-way SLI configuration.
According to internal test results, users that know their way around the more sophisticated BIOS functions can even drive clock speeds from 1,900MHz to 2,000MHz CL8. It should also be noted that all 48GB DDR3 kits are hand-tested by senior R&D team members, to ensure the highest levels of reliability, stability, performance and compatibility. Finally, in order to make sure that the high specifications don't result in the memory modules' untimely deaths, G.Skill outfitted each of them with a Ripjaws heatspreader.
The beastly collection of high-end modules will be most useful in such applications as data modeling, scientific research and 3D rendering, among other things. It will start shipping through its maker's retail partners in August. Unfortunately, the price point has not been mentioned, though it obviously won't be in any way accessible to the masses.
