This is just barely below the maximum advertised by RAM makers

Even though DDR4 is rated at a “standard” frequency of 2,133 MHz, there was no way that memory companies would let it languish at that level when there is DDR3 that can be overclocked beyond 3 GHz.

G.Skill is one of the more enthusiastic proponents of high-speed, high-capacity DDR4 memory kits. Made quite obvious by its latest announcement.

The company has demonstrated two high-end DDR4 kits of 32 GB capacity and operational frequency of 3,333 MHz.

There is one kit made of eight 4 GB modules and one kit made of four 8 GB modules. They are, of course, part of the Ripjaws 4 series.

They were tested on the ASUS Rampage V Extreme X99 and X99-Deluxe motherboards.

Essentially, this is the highest recorded speed of DDR4. There are some kits said to be able to attain 3.4 GHz, but they either haven't been released yet or no one has gotten around to testing the claims.

Now that the 3 GHz threshold can so easily be surpassed, it will be interesting to see what overclocking standards are established, aided by the Intel Haswell-E and Haswell-EP CPUs. No doubt we will see a fair few competitions and world records in the coming months.
