A new setup similar to Uncharted 2 can be chosen by nostalgic players

Naughty Dog has confirmed that it's working on a new patch for Uncharted 3 that's going to offer new aiming and shooting mechanics for those that want an experience closer to the one provided in Uncharted 2 a couple of years ago.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception was released at the beginning of the month and, since then, has gained a huge amount of accolades and distinctions, even an impressive 9.5 from our own review.

Still, there were a few aspects that didn't exactly impress fans, specifically the aiming and shooting mechanics, which felt quite different from the regular gunplay seen in the previous Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Naughty Dog, the developer of the series, confirmed at that time that a complete overhaul was made to the gunplay, in order to make it more precise.

Fans didn't exactly enjoy this new precision, and many started to dissect the actual mechanics to provide the studio with accurate feedback. This prompted Naughty Dog to actually bring in a couple of fans and do some live testing of variations on the shooting mechanics.

"We showed them a before and after without telling them which one was changed to see how they liked these alternate settings that our programmer had come up with," said community manager Arne Meyer to Giant Bomb.

"As part of that process, we iterated on what the feedback was and we were making changes on the fly, and changing different things from what we originally changed to get the right feel for the aiming."

Meyer confirms that the fans gave some great feedback and revealed that a new patch is coming which will let players choose between gunplay mechanics, either sticking to the current setup in Uncharted 3 or going for one inspired from Uncharted 2.

No word yet on when this update will actually appear, so look forward to some more details about it soon enough.
