Mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility has just confirmed plans to release on shelves new mobile phones that would have the ability to easily connect to laptop docks, just as the recently launched Motorola ATRIX does.

The idea of pairing mobile phones with laptop docks was a great one, though some see it as a failure when referring to the Motorola ATRIX.

Although it managed to expand the capabilities of the handset to new limits the laptop dock came with a leveraged price tag, which was not received very well by the community.

However, it seems that the company is ready to try remedying the situation, and that it would make the accessory available for more handsets in the future.

“In the Android ecosystem, there is a need for us to differentiate,” Sanjay Jha, chairman and chief executive officer of Motorola Mobility, said recently.

“[With] Atrix devices with the Webtop and lap-dock we really think there is an alternative way of viewing the convergence between mobility and computing. And we will continue to focus on that.

“You will see multiple devices from us in the second half launching with these capabilities, and we will expand the range of our Lapdock devices so we cover a broader price point, addressing both the enterprise premium tier as well as more consumer tiers.”

Moreover, he explained that the company is set to update the Webtop software, as well as to release new versions of accessories that would deliver improved productivity tools and multiple price points.

On the short term, the company is expected to launch a series of three new devices on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless in the United States, including the DROID X2, the DROID 3 and the DROID Bionic.

No info on whether these devices would arrive on shelves with laptop docks emerged for the time being but, provided that they won't, Motorola's rumored quad-core handsets, the Bullet and Jet, might actually sport them. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
