We've seen several server products crop up over the past week, and Fusion-io is one of the latest contributors to this string of releases.

The company has completed the Fusion ioDrive2 and ioDrive2 Duo, both of which will be used in Japanese data centers.

They have capacities of up to 2.4 TB and almost identical read and write access times: 850,000 for the former and 900,000 for the latter.

Yes, if what the announcement says is true, reading is actually slower that writing.

Speaking of specs, the latency is low, at 15 microseconds for writing, and the bandwidth is of 3 GB per second.

Furthermore, the Adaptive FlashBack technology provides chip level fault tolerance, enabling ioMemory to repair itself in case one or more chips fail, all without interrupting runtimes.

"Given Japan's well-deserved reputation for being one of the most innovative nations in the world, we are very proud to introduce the ioDrive2 with Tokyo Electron Device to help Japanese companies leverage their most important asset - data," said David Flynn, Fusion-io CEO and chairman.

"Whether in online commerce, social media, financial systems, or ensuring safe, on-schedule transportation systems, data is what powers our world today. With the ioDrive2, companies can unlock latent performance in their data centers in order to accelerate their applications while saving on both capital and operational expenses."

Fusion-io's new products are supported by all major operating systems: Windows, Linux, OSX, Solaris x86, ESXi 5.0 and HP-UX.

Currently, only 365 GB, 785 GB, 1205 GB and 2.4 TB capacities are available (made of MLC). 400 GB, 600 GB and 1.2 TB SLC drives will come later.

"We are very pleased to be able to offer the Fusion ioDrive2 in Japan. The new product improves I/O acceleration even more than the previous model to dramatically boost application performance," said Katsuyuki Amano, Tokyo Electron Device, VP and general manager CN Business.

"We are confident that the Fusion ioDrive2 is capable of meeting the need of enterprises which use large databases and data warehouses or dealing with research and development fields that require high performance computing."
