The news that 5 types of fungus have been found in Capri Sun juice drinks is now making headlines.

According to the researchers who made this discovery, none of the 5 types of fungus they have managed to pin down in said popular kids' juice drinks constitutes a major threat to public health.

Thus, they say that the immune systems of most people are perfectly capable of dealing with the fungi and therefore have nothing to worry about.

Specialist Kathleen Dannelly wished to stress the fact that people come in contact with fungi such as these ones on a daily basis, seeing how they can be found in the air, the soil, on our skin and inside our digestive tract.

“Probably, those of us with healthy immune systems, we could even eat that, and that wouldn’t be a problem,” Katheleen Dannelly reportedly said.

However, those whose immune systems have been compromised by various medical conditions run the risk of being affected by the fungi.

More precisely, people suffering with leukemia, AIDS and the like would do best to avoid coming in contact with such fungi too often.

Regardless of how harmful these fungi may or may not be to healthy people, customers are likely not to take lightly to this piece of news. The Examiner informs us that the researchers decided to look into the makeup of Capri Sun juice drinks following their learning that several customers had been complaining about finding mold in the drink.

Although such cases were rather few and far in between, they drew the researchers’ attention.

As Katheleen Dannelly explains, the mold forms when air somehow makes its way into the pouch. Once the fungus is exposed to oxygen, it begins to grow.

Said researcher and her colleagues hope that, at some point in the not so distant future, their study on this matter will be published in a peer-reviewed journal.
