14 DAY TRIAL // Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar believe that marriage is only between man and woman and that same-sex marriages are a perversion and a sin and not a human right as activists would have you believe. Because they’re not afraid to speak on their beliefs, there’s an online petition to get TLC to cancel their reality show, 19 Kids and Counting, because of them.
The petition has a little over 170,000 signatures, so it will probably fail to make an impression on network bosses – not when the series remains one of its highest rated, at least.
Even so, a fundamentalist Christian group wants TLC to know that, where the Duggars have enemies who signed this petition calling for the cancelation of the show, they also have supporters, perhaps even more than haters.
The petition against the petition
“Rabid homosexual activists have made America’s favorite family enemy Number One,” the text of the new petition, started by the American Family Association, reads. “Because of their uncompromising stand on marriage and abstinence, the homosexual lobby has drawn a bully bead on Jim and Michelle Duggar.”
This new petition is a response to the other one and aims to show TLC that it shouldn’t even consider pulling the plug on the show, because it’s like a final bastion for decency and God’s word for the traditional family and its core values.
The new petition aims to get 1 million signatures by Christmas, but the AFA doesn’t say how many it has gathered until now. But they’re determined to silence the gay propaganda, and because they can’t pull the other petition from the Internet, they will at least try to make more noise than the other group.
The only real winner here is TLC
We won’t discuss here which petition is right and which is wrong, because siding with either party is entirely a personal matter, depending on convictions, beliefs, and orientation. Whichever side you’re taking on this matter, you should know that the biggest winner here is none other than TLC, because it’s proved before that it thrives on controversy.
The Duggars are TLC’s biggest stars in recent years, not including Honey Boo Boo and her family, all of whom are now off favorites lists because of the pedophile scandal Mama June got herself involved in.
The Duggars were a hit with audiences both when their names were involved in a controversy of the kind mentioned above, with the “dueling” petitions, and when they weren’t – because the Duggars lead too interesting lives not to watch.
Whether viewers like to admit it or not, even those who don’t agree with their beliefs will tune in because their lifestyle is unlike what you see today on television. The fact that they hold off having relations or any other type of contact that may lead to that might be deemed “good” or “bad” depending on who’s watching, but there’s no denying that it’s interesting to watch and see that there still are people as pure as that in this hypersexualized industry.
