But the development team is making steady progress

The developers at Sony are still working on The Last Guardian but the particular way that former leading developer Fumito Ueda shaped the project is making progress difficult and might lead to delays for the much-expected PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Speaking to 1UP, Shuhei Yoshida, who is the president of Sony Worldwide Studios, has stated, “The project has been making progress, but slow progress. So that's tough, but we haven't changed any focus. It's still a really important project and a vision we want to see realized, and Fumito's vision is really causing a very difficult challenge for the developers, so there's some scrapping and rebuilding - iteration in the process. That's why.”

The main creator of The Last Guardian, Fumito Ueda, confirmed that he was getting ready to leave Sony, after rumors suggested the possibility that the creator was unhappy with his working environment.

He is apparently ready to get involved in other projects, but he has an arrangement with Sony, one that will see him continue to work on The Last Guardian.

Yoshida added, “You know, we discussed an arrangement so he could focus on the creative side. But his work and his presence on that team never changed, so it was just more a contractual rearrangement, and that was taken as 'he left'. He comes in every day, and he's probably one of the people who works the longest hours.”

The Last Guardian is a very ambitious project and focuses on the relationship that develops between a boy and a strange creature with griffon-like looks called Trico.

The two must work together to escape a somewhat ruined large castle and a more sinister threat has been suggested although never actually revealed.

The Last Guardian was set to appear during 2011, but since then the project has been pushed back indefinitely, although fans are expecting to see it this year.
