The man who is supposed to be leading the development process on the much-awaited The Last Guaridan has confirmed that development on the game is still ongoing, but refused to offer any more details on when fans might receive more information about it or when it might finally be launched.

Fumito Ueda is the main developer behind classic experiences like Shadow of the Colossus and ICO and he has recently told Kotaku that working on The Last Guardian has “been business as usual. The only things that've really changed are the terms of my contract.”

He then added, “I can't really comment on the details.”

Ueda was originally an employee at Sony, but he left the company during 2011, saying that he was interested in finishing The Last Guardian but needed to get a different perspective on the game.

Kotaku managed to catch up with Ueda and asked him what he's been doing since his departure from Sony. Ueda couldn't say much, but he assured us that he is indeed still working closely with the development team and that work on The Last Guardian is in progress.

Since then, the game has also lost other key personnel and some of the work has been outsourced to Western development companies.

The Last Guardian was not even mentioned at the E3 2012 Sony press conference or present on the floor of the show, which prompted even more fans to wonder whether the game has moved to the dreaded vaporware category.

The Last Guardian is supposed to center around the interactions of a young boy and fantasy beast that resembles a griffin called Trico.

The two will need to explore a number of areas and battle enemies and their ability to work together will expand as the game progresses.

The game was first shown during 2008 and will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3 if it is ever launched.
