Evidence pointing towards the unveiling of a white iPod touch keeps mounting, this time around thanks to a source in the US that claims to have obtained the digitizer panel created by Apple’s supply chain for the future players.

Matching a fourth-generation device perfectly, iPod touch parts obtained by a person named Lafayette from the East Coast of the United States seem to corroborate a story from Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who, last week, had allegedly learned of Apple’s plans for a new iPod touch first-hand.

Not long after Kuo had his talks with Apple’s manufacturing partners, a component identified by iFixYouri (iPhone repair shop) as a digitizer panel of the next-gen iPod touch had emerged in pictures, also white.

It is becoming pretty clear that Cupertino has plans to refresh the iPod touch line, if only just aesthetically, to milk the player for all it’s got.

Apple’s most recent quarterly earnings call revealed that iPod sales are still on a declining trend, with the iTouch accounting for most of the revenue garnered by the iPod segment.

It makes sense for the Cupertino technology giant to try and revitalize what little power the iPod touch has left before it becomes irrelevant in the face of newer iPhones and iPads.

However, who’s to say Apple isn’t testing a fifth-generation model with new dual-core silicon inside it and a longer lasting battery? The iOS SDK sure seems to confirm its existence.

Knowing how well the A5 chip does to sell Apple’s iOS devices as gaming platforms, there’s still a chance for iPod sales to pick up.

There’ a good probability Apple will be phasing out some of the less popular iPods this year - the shuffle, the Classic, and perhaps others.

With fewer options for buying a device that’s strictly aimed at media and apps, the iPod touch with its high-res 3.7-inch screen suddenly sounds like the best iPod money can buy.

The timing would be perfect to throw in a white version too.
