Developers dream of a special venue just for Apple TV apps

After long coding sessions, developers Steven Troughton-Smith and TheMudKip have managed to bring iPad applications to the Apple TV. Some of the apps run as if they were specifically created for the set-top-box and big screen.

The developers said they achieved this by replacing the entire springboard, and their development is still a work-in-progress, so we should expect more such great news in the future.

However, Troughton-Smith has an even bolder wish. He wrote on Twitter, “Remember how the unofficial iPhone applications back in ‘07 forced Apple’s hand in creating an App Store? I’d like Apple TV to get the same treatment.”

Ask any Apple TV owner and he / she will tell you the exact same thing. But knowing how Apple used Siri to sell the iPhone 4S, one has to wonder: will Apple release its rumored next-gen TV with an exclusive App Store?
