Turns out this was from a 2013 performance

The other day, a Vine of Iggy Azalea “rapping” started making the rounds online: no one cared where it came from or when it was shot, but everyone was eager to rack their brains in trying to determine what exactly she was rapping about. Was she even speaking English?

Most commenters eventually agreed that she wasn’t, or if she was, she was merely stringing words with no apparent meaning, trying to pass for a good rapper.

The full video from which the Vine was made has been found, and it’s safe to say that it’s not one ounce better than the shorter version. So if you found that one hilarious and very confusing, this one is several more times so.

Apparently, the segment was shot at the Splash Festival in Germany in 2013, and the track Iggy is “rapping” is called “D.R.U.G.S.” I checked out the studio version, and it’s just as nonsensical as this live one.

Needless to say, this video too has gone viral, prompting even more jokes at the expense of this Australian woman who is making a fortune by taking a style that’s essentially black, as hip hop is, and completely divorcing it from its social and political background.

And then she goes and cries that she’s being discriminated against for being white and a woman, when people are telling her, justly so, that she’s appropriating hip hop culture.

If there was ever a video proof that Iggy would have been better off making Britney Spears-like pop music (see the second video below for more on that), this viral is probably it.

*Please note that discretion is recommended before pressing play on the first video. If you can make out what she’s saying, that is.
