Play around with gameplay

Halo 3: ODST has been loved by some, who are playing up its innovative campaign storytelling and its pacing, along with the new Firefight mode, and has been dismissed by some as being just a quick way for Bungie and for Microsoft to make money, pointing out the 60-dollar price point and the limited content in single player. But one feature no one can hate is the ability to capture video from the games played and from replays. It's a very simple and effective way of allowing players to enjoy their best moments and to show them off to friends and enemies alike.

Of course, when players have an awesome new feature in one videogame, they are likely to demand that it be introduced in other releases.

But it seems that no one is really talking about video capture tools being integrated in other Xbox 360 titles set to be released this year. Of course, with Microsoft being the publisher of Halo 3: ODST, it might just be that they used the game as a testing ground for a feature they plan to add to the console in a future system update.

Further proof of this comes from a statement made by a developer working on an upcoming Xbox 360 title. He anonymously told Kotaku that “We'd love to have video capture in our game, but why work on something that the platform holder is already developing.”

Scott Austin, who is the digital games director for Xbox Live, revealed that “We are always thinking about ways that Live at the platform level can make games better. I'm not going to comment on video capture, but you can assume we are thinking about ways to make things more interactive.”

As always when corporate speech is involved, it's hard to take that as a confirmation or as a denial but the Xbox 360 could boost its sales in both hardware and software if video capture is added.
