Today, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless went official with plans to add Windows Phone 8 devices to its network, starting with the Lumia 822 handset from Nokia.

The new device is expected to become officially available for purchase on Big Red’s 4G LTE network this fall at $99.99 on contract, but no specific release date for it has been provided as of yet.

Based on Nokia’s Lumia 820, the handset will be pushed to shelves as a mid-level Windows Phone 8 device, though with appealing specs and features packed inside.

The same as the original model, Verizon’s flavor of the smartphone will pack a 4.3-inch ClearBlack screen, along with a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU inside, complemented by 1GB of RAM.

Users will also benefit from 16GB of internal memory and 7GB of SkyDrive storage with the device, as well as from the possibility to add microSD memory cards of up to 64GB in size.

Launched with support for the wireless carrier’s 4G LTE network, Lumia 822 will also come with global connectivity capabilities, and will enable users to connect to Wi-Fi access points.

In fact, it will provide them with the option to use their own handsets as hotspots, while providing them with NFC connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi Channel bonding, and Micro-USB 2.0 port.

Lumia 822 will also land on shelves with support for Qi Wireless charging, so that users could charge it without having to plug it into a wall socket.

On the back, the smartphone features an 8-megapixel photo snapper with dual-LED flash and full HD video recording, complemented by a front camera for making video calls.

A BP-4W 1800 mAh battery packed inside the new device should deliver up to 11.7 hours of talk time on 3G, or up to 400 hours of standby time. The smartphone should provide users with up to 62.1 hours of talk time.

With the full range of sensors packed inside, Lumia 822 was designed to offer an appealing user experience, especially since it runs under Windows Phone 8, the next-generation mobile platform from Microsoft.
