On Tuesday, wireless carrier Sprint announced the launch of its first 4G smartphone to include the ability to capture, record and playback content in 3D, namely the HTC EVO 3D.

The new device was rumored quite a while ago, and should become available for purchase at the wireless carrier sometime in summer (no specific availability details were unveiled for the time being).

One of the main feature of the new smartphone would be its 4.3 inch 3D qHD touchscreen, with pinch-to-zoom and tactile feedback, on which users can view 3D content without having to wear special 3D glasses.

The handset runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, on top of which HTC loaded its new HTC Sense user experience.

The new HTC EVO 3D packs a 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon application processor inside, complemented by 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of internal memory, along with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space (an 8GB card included in the package).

Moreover, the new mobile phone arrives with Wi-Fi: 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, and with 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot capability, which enables it to offer access to the carrier's network to up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices simultaneously.

3D content can be recorded using the phone's dual 5-megapixel cameras (HD quality, 2D at 1080p and 3D at 720p). They can also be used for shooting normal, high-resolution photos. The handset also comes with 1.3MP front-facing camera, for video calling.

Other specs of the new device would also include 3G/4G capability, 3.5mm stereo headset jack, stereo Bluetooth, output HD content to a compatible TV using HDMI or DLNA, or built-in GPS receiver, with support for Google Maps.

It would arrive with support for apps from the Android Market, as well as for various Google Mobile Services, including Google Search, Google Maps, Google Talk, Gmail, YouTube, and syncing with Google Calendar.

The phone would also sport a range of pre-loaded applications and content, such as a 3D version of Blockbuster OnDemand app, Qik app for video calling, Sprint Zone, Sprint TV & Movies, Sprint Football Live, Sprint Navigation and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile.

The HTC EVO 3D measures 5.0" x 2.6" x .48" and weighs in at 6 ounces, while packing a 1730 mAh Lithium-ion battery inside.
