LTE (Long Term Evolution) connectivity might have been the only feature that Samsung's flagship Galaxy S II missed before, but things have already changed.

The South Korean mobile phone maker unveiled to the world an LTE-enabled flavor of the device, one that also packs upgraded hardware specifications when compared to the already available flavor of the handset.

One of the first enhancements that should mark the difference between the two devices would be the dual-core processor that both the original and the LTE-enabled smartphone pack, but which was clocked in at 1.5GHz in the latter, compared to only 1.2GHz in the former.

Moreover, the new mobile phone arrives on shelves with a larger Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display, one that measures 4.5-inch diagonally, though it boasts the same resolution as the predecessor.

Of course, there is also the LTE connectivity included into the mix, in addition to the WCDMA/GSM capabilities that the device already included.

A Li-Ion 1850mAh battery should provide users with increased usage time, while the 16GB of internal memory will enable them to carry around a great deal of files. If that is not enough, users can also add a microSD card into the mix, of up to 32GB.

On the back, the new device features an 8-megapixel photo snapper, the same as the original phone, also with LED flash and support for full HD video recording. On the front, the device sports a 2MP camera, offering video calling capabilities.

The Samsung Galaxy S II LTE runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and sports the TouchWiz user interface on top of it.

NFC (Near Field Communications), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities were included into the mix as well, along with 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS receiver, accelerometer, digital compass, and proximity sensor.

The mobile phone also offers support for the Social Hub from Samsung, as well as for Readers Hub, Games Hub, Music Hub, and a wide range of services from Google, such as Search, Maps, YouTube, Android Market, and more.

In addition to boasting a larger screen, the new Galaxy S II LTE model also sports a battery cover with a brushed metal finish, the guys over at Samsung Hub note. The smartphone will be showcased next week at IFA 2011 in Berlin.
