Looks like Santa has been generous with Tekken fans, because what is probably the best title in the series, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, has been released as a downloadable title over the PlayStation store.

So far, this title was available only on the PSP, but this PS3 version will come to PS3s in full HD graphics (from 720p up to 1080p), as Gamasutra reports. The game will run at 60 frames per second and will be the first iteration in the series to have Jinpachi Mishima as a playable character.

The downloadable version of Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection will have some new battle modes implemented, such as ghost battle-a mode in which players fight a never-ending series of characters in order to advance in rank. A gallery mode will also be implemented in the Tekken 5 downloadable version, a mode in which players can unlock Tekken artwork and videos.

All you US gamers don't get all worked-up now because this download is available only in Sony's Japanese and Honk Kong PlayStation stores and it costs around 16 bucks. No word is out on the US release, but I guess Sony won't ignore the American market. If you are from Japan or Honk Kong, I must inform you that this download will take up 830 MB of your PS3 hard drive but if you are a Tekken fan, it's probably worth it.

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is the seventh game in this Namco series, and was meant to be a PSP exclusive. The story of Dark Resurrection follows the story of Tekken 4, in which Heihachi Mishima defeated Kazuya Mishima.
