Android mobile phone users can now enhance the security of their devices with a new application specifically designed for them, namely avast! Mobile Security.

Made available in beta last week, the application has just been graduated to a final release, and is available for download via the Android Market for all devices running under Android 2.1 or newer platform releases.

avast! Mobile Security comes with Antivirus and Anti-Theft security, aimed at improving the level of security that users can benefit from even more.

Some of the main features that the new application was made available with, include the ability to perform on-demand scans for apps and memory card content, to scan access rights and intents of installed apps, or to set calls and/or messages filtering.

Users will also be able to schedule scans and virus definition updates, or to uninstall applications, while being able to take advantage of an App Manager to see memory and storage usage of installed software.

There is also the avast! Web Shield for Android, which was designed to scan all URLs loaded on the handset, and to warn users if one of them is a malware-infected URL.

There is also a firewall included in the application, which has been designed to keep hackers away from getting into the phone.

As for the avast! Anti-Theft, it was designed to ensure that thieves will not be able to use your stolen phone.

It can be disguised to become practically invisible on the device (making it harder for thieves to find and uninstall it), and can be set to perform specific tasks, while staying hidden the rest of the time.

Users can set it to accept only select SIM cards, and to block the phone when another card is inserted. On rooted phones, it can get through hard resets, ensuring that the device is protected even if thieves try to wipe it clean.

All these and other features more are available for all owners of compatible devices for free.
