Today, Fujitsu has announced the development of two new series of enterprise hard disk drives, coming to deliver a total storage capacity of 300GB in a 2.5-inch form factor. Designed to meet the requirements of computer professionals, Fujitsu's new hard disk drives have been set to combine a fast 15000 RPM disk platter with a 6GB/s SAS interface. Both the MBD2 RC and MBE2 RC series are expected to maker their debut in 2009, in the first and second quarter, respectively.

According to Fujitsu, the new series of hard drives are set to improve performance by as much as 60%, as far as internal speeds are concerned. In addition, following the global industry efforts to provide products that are more environmentally friendly, the new Fujitsu enterprise hard disk drives have been developed with a halogen-free design, a first for the company's HDDs of this type.

As far a specifications go, Fujitsu's new MBD2 RC series of hard disk drives has been designed to work at 10.025RPM, while the MBE2 RC series is slated for a maximum speed of 15000RPM. Both series, however, are equipped with support for a high-speed 6GB/s SAS interface. Due to the implementation of the traditional perpendicular magnetic recording, the new hard drives from Fujitsu can enable high storage capacities of 300GB, for the MBD2 RC series, and of up to 147 GB for the MBE2 RC. Both models of Fujitsu enterprise hard disk drives have been built to deliver a high level of performance and storage capacity in a smaller footprint, of only 2.5-inch.

Aside from the environmentally friendly features of the new Fujitsu enterprise HDDs, they have also been set to work at industry-leading low power consumption of 3.4W and 4.1W at idle mode, for the MBD2 RC and MBE2 RC, respectively. According to the company, this is a 28% improvement over current 2.5-inch models, while some 3.5-inch HDDs are said to consume as much as 74% more power.
