Mobile phone maker Fujitsu has made official a new device in its Raku-Raku (easy-to-use) lineup, the first smartphone in the world to come with Immersion’s HD Haptics inside.

The new device arrives on the market with Immersion’s TouchSense 5000 embedded control software backed by a high-fidelity piezo actuator that is capable of creating HD Haptic effects.

Immersion Corporation is well known for its touch feedback technology development and licensing, and has delivered its Integrator software to Fujitsu to be included in the new device.

Through this technology, the handset delivers an easy-to-understand user interface that should prove a great option for all users who are looking for an intuitive smartphone design, the company notes.

“Fujitsu understands that consumers value a mobile interface that is simple, straightforward, and above all, intuitive,” explains Dennis Sheehan, Immersion’s vice president of marketing.

“Immersion’s HD Haptics have the fastest response time and the broadest range of sensations available in the smartphone market. As a result of the speed and range of response, this smartphone’s haptic effects are crisp, precise and very realistic.”

“Combining Immersion’s HD Haptics with Fujitsu’s user interface design delivers an easy-to-use user interface that consumers can confidently navigate,” Dennis Sheehan concluded.

Fujitsu has already sold over 20 million Raku-Raku smartphones in Japan, with Google’s Android operating system loaded on them and with an easy-to-navigate interface and streamlined functionality.

Immersion’s TouchSense 5000 embedded software that drives a piezo actuator to deliver high-quality haptic effects has been integrated throughout the UI.

Thus, users benefit from crisp and realistic haptic effects when hitting keys and buttons. In time, the consistency of the haptic effects provides users with the possibility to quickly recognize which sensations are associated with the various UI functions.

The final goal, which both Fujitsu and Immersion believe that has been achieved, was to come up with a more intuitive user experience through HD Haptics.

“Fujitsu is dedicated to providing our customers with the most advanced technologies,” explains Ms. Kaoru Chujo, general manager &vice president of Fujitsu’s Mobile Phone Division.

“Immersion’s HD Haptic technology complements Fujitsu’s unique touch panel design to create a user experience that gives our consumers confidence and an easy-to-use interface.”

The Raku-Raku SMART PHONE featuring this technology is available for purchase through wireless carrier NTT DOCOMO in Japan.
