The focus on green computing has only grown stronger over the past couple of years and technology has reached a point where it can achieve astoundingly low environmental footprints with little or no noticeable impact on performance. This has led to a market where the energy efficiency of a device is a major factor in the final decision of end-users regarding what and when to buy. Knowing about this strong emphasis on green computing, Fujitsu has announced the existence of a full line of such products that all bear the coveted proGREEN badge.

Fujitsu's proGREEN products are known for their high energy efficiency and bring significant benefits, especially to enterprise and business users, because they reduce costs significantly without any adverse effects on productivity. The latest line of such products could be seen as complete, as it is made up of all three kinds of computing products, namely ESPRIMO PCs, LIFEBOOK notebooks and CELSIUS workstations. The new devices come as a result of channel partners’ requests to expand the proGREEN line and are designed to meet such needs as on-the-move and in-office computing.

The new computers are all ENERGY STAR 5.0 certified and achieve their low power consumption thanks to Intel Core i5 and i7 vPro central processing units. The proGREEN ESPRIMO E9900 and P9900 are described as “powerful and affordable solutions” with Core i5 processors, up to 89% efficient PSUs and 0-Watt power-off technology, which leads to a 10% decrease in power use compared with previous generations. This efficiency is complemented by the reduced amount of toxic chemicals used in production, which earned the PCs such environmental certifications as Nordic Swan, Blue Angel, EPEAT and the aforementioned ENERGY STAR 5.0.

The new proGREEN product set also includes two CELSIUS workstations, namely the W280 desktop and the mobile H700. These systems use NVIDIA graphics and Core i7 chips.

The last members of the new product offer are the LIFEBOOK E780 and the LIFEBOOK S710 notebook PCs. They offer choices of 14-inch and 15.6-inch screens and are up to 25% more efficient than previous-generation models. This ENERGY STAR 5.0-level power efficiency is achieved by a combination of low-power specs, an AC adapter with an 87% efficiency, use of LED and the Fujitsu EcoButton, which turns off unnecessary components for enabling up to an extra hour of battery life. All in all, these features, according to Fujitsu, let the LIFEBOOK E780, when equipped with two batteries, reach an outrageous battery lifespan of up to 18 hours.

“Fujitsu has been leading the way for Green IT for more than 20 years,” Rajat Kakar, vice president Clients Group at Fujitsu Technology Solutions, said. “We are the first IT vendor to offer a complete range of environmentally-sound products. This product line offers all the environmental benefits along with maximum performance, but without a high price tag. Furthermore, businesses can achieve additional cost-savings with the resulting energy-savings.”

All proGREEN models are already available to channel partners, but the company has not yet disclosed the detailed specifications or prices of any of them.
