Fujitsu Computer Products has just announced the introduction of its 2.5-inch MJA2 BH and MJA2 CH series 5400 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s mobile hard disk drives. The new HDDs, which can provide a maximum storage capacity of 500GB, are designed to fit not only portable computer systems, but also desktops. In addition, the high-capacity 2.5-inch HDDs from Fujitsu have also been featured with full disk encryption (FDE).
"We are excited to bring to market a series of hard drives that not only provide tremendous storage capacity, but also minimize the environmental impact," said Lorne Wilson, senior vice president, sales, corporate marketing and new products group. "This new series will also be an ideal solution for customers that require an extremely secure, high capacity storage solution."
The MJA2 CH series was specifically built to meet information security needs for high data storage capacity applications, which is why these hard drives have been equipped with a 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard encryption, allowing Fujitsu to claim the first 500GB HDD line to boast the advanced encryption. Both drives can deliver a maximum transfer rate of 300MB/s, and have an 8MB buffer size, with 12ms and 14ms read and write average seek time. Also, both the MJA2 CH and the MJA2 BH have been designed to feature industry-leading levels of power efficiency, coming to support the ongoing efforts to prevent global warming and promote environmental conservation.
According to Fujitsu, its new 2.5-inch SATA II hard drives consume only 1.4W of power to record data, a 33% power reduction over previous models. That being said, the new Fujitsu hard drives are likely to become a favorite with notebook users, given their power specifications that enable a longer battery life.
Unfortunately, the company hasn't yet released details about pricing, but users should expect the MJA2 BH to become available at the end of the year, while the MJA2 CH is slated for a Q1 2009 release.
