With IFA in full bloom, companies are unveiling products one after another, regardless of whether their exhibitions include the new devices or not, and one of Fujitsu's latest offering is the LifeBook T580, a convertible tablet PC of 10.1 inches with four-finger multitouch support.

Though media slates are getting popular, convertible tablet PCs still have an edge in certain markets, because of their physical keyboards.

As with all LifeBook products, the newcomer, dubbed LifeBook T580, is meant as a flexible mobile solution with full-size notebook features and other assets, such as enhanced sunlight visibility.

The device can have up to Intel Core i5 processors and is loaded with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.

The machine also boasts a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display with a full touchscreen that recognizes input from up to 4 fingers simultaneously.

Operations such as scrolling, double tapping, rotating, magnifying are supported, along with 14 different gestures.

A Dual Digitizer also delivers the highest level of accuracy and pressure sensitivity when using a stylus, and this is just a bonus over the ability of Windows 7 to recognize handwriting in 26 languages.

What's more, the mobile computer boasts an Ambient Light Sensor, which adjusts the intensity of the LED backlighting, and this gives it visibility even in direct sunlight, according to the press release.

As for security, Fujitsu threw in a biometric fingerprint sensor and the company's own Advanced Theft Protection technology.

"The new LIFEBOOK T580 is designed to be used primarily on the move – which is why there is no compromise on connectivity or usability,” Rajat Kakar, Vice President Workplace Systems at Fujitsu Technology Solutions says.

“The new smaller size combines the portability of a slate with the added practicality of a tablet PC, giving LIFEBOOK users the best of both worlds,” he added.

Unfortunately, the price has not been mentioned and shipments aren't set to start until late November.
