14 DAY TRIAL // Fujitsu has announced its BroadOne WX series of mobile WiMAX base stations, one of the smallest and most energy-efficient devices of its kind on the mobile market. These stations are targeted at the fast-emerging global wireless broadband networks. Fujitsu's first device in the BroadOne series is the BroadOne WX300 outdoor macro-cell device.
According to Fujitsu, these new base stations for outdoor use draw less power and at the same time offer improved performance. They are also easy to install and take up less physical space. The manufacturer will release three models of the BroadOne base station, that will work in the 2.5 GHz and 2.3 GHz wireless spectrum.
The BroadOne WX300 outdoor macro-cell base station works and acts as a wireless access point. It can be configured to work in single, lightweight mode, with a covered radius of about 3 kilometers. The second model in the series is a compact outdoor micro-cell base station that can transmit wireless signals over a 300-meter radius. Such units will be especially used in areas with poor wireless coverage. Last, but not least, the third model is a ultra-compact pico-cell base station destined for indoor usage only.
The three base stations will all support the Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technology with multiple operation modes (Matrix A and B ), which will improve the system performance. Fujitsu claims that it will be able to provide mobile broadband solutions for all types of environments and needs, either outdoors or indoors (subway stations, city buildings or supermarkets).
Airspan networks inked a four-year cooperation agreement with Fujitsu. The two companies will team up to build and deliver Mobile WiMAX Base Stations. Airspan already offers a similar product, called the MacroMAXe. It has almost identical specifications and operating performance, but comes with dual 40dBm (10W) radios with 2?2 MIMO and delivers up to 60dBm EiRP with the built-in antennas.
