Fujitsu Siemens Computers has announced a new entry-level server system, part of the company's PRIMERGY lineup. According to the PC vendor, the new product has been specifically designed for small businesses, providing them with a quiet server system that is low on energy consumption, also enabling performance in a form factor that doesn't take up more room space than an A4 folder. Simply dubbed PRIMERY TX120 S2, the new entry-level solution is the company's second-generation TX10 server, offering power enhancements over its predecessor.

“The new PRIMERGY TX120 S2 gives customers in small businesses and branch offices the best of both worlds – the benefit of support from a real server, and the saving on costs thanks to low energy consumption. As a bonus, small businesses using the PRIMERGY TX120 S2 may find that they suddenly have office space to spare, proving the old adage that the best things come in small packages,” Jens-Peter Seick, senior vice-president, Enterprise Server Business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, said.

According to FSC, the new TX120 S2 can save up to more than 25 percent on power, compared with its predecessor. In addition, the system has been built to take advantage of a new range of Intel Core 2 Duo processors, which not only boosts system performance, but also further lowers the power consumption. Some of the enhancements provided by the new PRIMERGY server include an increased capacity for onboard memory, and up to 16GB and more space for larger, lower-priced hard drives with support for various RAID configurations.

With the announcement, Fujitsu Siemens Computers also shared that the new system was cheaper to use and own, thanks to its energy-saving features. In addition, with a starting price tag of 545 Euros, the cost of the new product from FSC comes close to that of some netbooks on the market. The PRIMERGY TX120 S2 should become available on April 1, 2009, according to the PC vendor.
