Fujitsu Siemens Computers has been selected by OMV AG, leading oil and gas group in Europe, as technology partner. The two entities have signed a contract for IT infrastructure and services spread across 30 countries. Fujitsu Siemens Computers has been chosen from a list of major IT vendors and will take care of the entire network of servers and the complete international coordination of OMV's trade operations.

OMV decided to upgrade its IT infrastructure so as to ensure the future stability and robustness of its operations, and chose to place management of its systems across 30 European countries in the hands of an IT service provider. OMV is a Vienna-based group and one of Austria’s largest publicly-listed industrial companies, which registered more than 20 billion Euros in sales in 2007, and is said to have a current market capitalization of around 7 billion Euros.

The new OMV server portfolio is exclusively based on PRIMERGY from Fujitsu Siemens Computers, ranging from single-processor machines used in offices to the latest-generation multi-core PRIMERGY BX series blades for data centers. Also, the PRIMERGY family offers high energy-efficiency, outstanding performance and simple operation.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers will also manage OMV's extensive IT infrastructure. The company's services branch will be entrusted with Service Level Agreements, designed so as to deliver the maximum value to OMV, according to individual usage and needs scenarios.

Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice President Enterprise Server Business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, said that “The deal between OMV and Fujitsu Siemens Computers represents a truly European partnership. OMV selected Fujitsu Siemens Computers because of our IT competence as well as our flexibility to exactly meet their individual needs, coupled with the advantage of sharing a similar cultural background. We are able to support OMV in its important markets and flexibly tailor our processes precisely to their specific requirements”.

“The most-important factors in making this decision were flexibility, efficiency and the company’s ability to empathize with the customer. We wanted a provider that could guarantee efficient, reliable and cost-effective business process operations in over 30 countries. Fujitsu Siemens Computers, with whom we had already enjoyed a long-standing partnership, was unmatched in being able to completely fulfill these conditions,” commented Johann Kandelsdorfer, Chief Information Officer at OMV, while explaining the reasons the company selected Fujitsu Siemens Computers as its technology partner.
