Given the fact that carrying around a large size scanner is not exactly a viable option for road warriors, Fujitsu has decided to come up with a special offering dedicated specifically to this market segment and introduced at CES 2011 the ScanSnap S1100, that packs a host of advanced features in a very compact and portable form factor.

The ScanSnap S1100 measures just around 10.74 x 1.87 x 1.33 inches and weighs only 12.3 ounces, which means that it can be very easily carried around, while also delivering quite a good level of performance, a letter-sized sheet of paper being scanned in just around 7.5 seconds (300dpi, color).

Compatible with both Mac and PC systems, the new scanner from Fujitsu sports a Continuous Document Feeding (CDF) function, enabling users to scan multiple-page documents into a single PDF file, while the adjustable two-way paper path allows them to scan a wide variety of document types, such as ID cards or even long forms up to 34 inches.

It's also important to mention that the ScanSnap S1100, that is powered by a single USB cable, converts scanned data into searchable PDF files and even allows users to quickly transform paperwork into editable Word and Excel files, while also being able to scan documents directly to Evernote and Google Docs cloud services.

"Since the launch of the first ScanSnap in 2003 we have not only consistently expanded its features for both consumers and small office professionals, but have also broadened the product lineup to include desktop, personal and now a true mobile scanning solution," said Scott Francis, vice president of marketing, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc.

"Simply put, the ScanSnap S1100 takes many of the most popular and powerful features of its larger predecessors and gives users the flexibility and tools they need to be more efficient and paperless anywhere, and at anytime," Mr. Francis added.

The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1100 is available now for $199, which is actually a pretty good price point for a device delivering such a high level of portability and performance.
