The fine lines between netbooks, ultraportables and fully fledged notebooks is becoming increasingly thinner, as PC vendors continue to release new systems that basically combine some of the features from one category with those from the other. That is the case with one of Fujitsu's latest portable computer systems, which has just been announced in Japan. The company's new FMV LOOX C series boasts a small-sized form factor, of 11.6-inch, but is powered by Intel's latest CULV platform, basically providing a choice for an ultraportable netbook with an increased performance, when compared to traditional Atom-powered systems.

At the heart of the new FMV LOOX C-series is an Intel GS45 Express chipset, which comes with the Intel integrated GMA 4500MHD graphics chip, offering full support for the upcoming Windows 7 operating system, which is the OS of choice for Fujitsu's latest ultraportable PC. Additional features include an 11.6-inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, support for up to 2GB of RAM, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, 320GB hard disk drive and all the connectivity options you'll require from an ultraportable PC.

The FMV LOOX C comes with three USB 2.0 ports, wireless 802.11n and wired Ethernet connectivity, a media card reader, VGA and audio jacks, all within a system that is said to weigh just 1.6kg. The company will allow users to choose from two models, namely the higher-end C/E70, which comes with a dual-core Core 2 Duo SU9400, 1.4GHz processor and a battery pack rated at 9.2 hours of runtime, while the lower-end C/E50 model boasts a Celeron SU2300 1.2 GHz CPU and a battery pack with 6.2 hours of life.

Unfortunately, the adoption of Intel's CULV platform inside this small 11.6-inch form factor has left its mark on the system's price tag. According to available details, the C/E70 will be available starting October 29, for about US$1,113 (100,000 yen), while the C/E50 comes on October 22 with a price tag of US$890 (80,000 yen).
