Sony and Asus announced their cool LED backlit notebook line-ups, but Fujitsu is not impressed with this move and announces its new LifeBook P7230 notebook which features a 10.6" LED backlit display. LED technology allows for even slimmer display panels, extended battery life, not to mention richer color gamuts and deeper black tints.

With the inclusion of LED backlit displays, the LifeBook P7230 is able to achieve an impressive 1.17" thickness, making it 15% thinner than its predecessor. The
notebook is as light as 2.96 pounds and this includes the optical drive.

Data processing power comes from a 1.2GHz Intel Core U1400 Ultra Low Voltage CPU, while 1GB of DDR2 667MHz memory is Fujitstu's standard. Other features for the $1,699 base model include a pre-installed Windows Vista Basic OS, a rather insufficient 40GB hard drive disk, Atheros Super AG 802.11a/b/g wireless adapter, a DVD/CD-RW combo drive and a fingerprint reader for improved security.

The $1,899 mid-level model packs a Windows Vista Business OS platform, a still insufficient 60GB hard drive, dual-layer DVD burner and an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 wireless adapter. The high-end range is represented by a $2,179 model, which adds a satisfactory 80GB hard drive, Bluetooth 2.0 EDR connections, port replicators and a built-in webcam.

Users who don't want to make the jump to Windows Vista can choose models that come with Windows XP Professional instead. Apart from the pre-installed OS, the new notebook line-up features a wide software bundle, including: Adobe Reader, Norton Internet Security 2007, Fujitsu HotKey and Fujitsu Driver Update Utility, LifeBook Application Panel, CyberLink PowerDVD, PowerProducer, PowerDirector SE, Roxio Easy Media Creator, Google Desktop, Softex OmniPass finger print authentication and password management software and Fujitsu's proprietary shock sensor utility.

Battery life for the new line-up is estimated at around 6 hours with a 6-cell battery and 9.75 hours with the additional modular bay battery.
