Fujitsu F906i and F706i, New Clamshells from Japan

Fujitsu recently unveiled two of its latest mobile phones, F906i and F706i, both coming in a clamshell form factor and packing pretty nice features - as all the new Japanese handsets. The new phones have pretty simple designs but Fujitsu seems to have paid a great deal of attention to details, making everything look very nice.

Fujitsu F906i features a 3.2 TFT internal display with a WVGA resolution (480 x 864) and 16 million colors, a secondary, external 0.8 inch FSTN screen (for quickly viewing info like incoming calls or messages without opening the phone), GSM and 3G connectivity, mobile TV capabilities (1Seg), built-in GPS, a 3.2 Megapixel camera with video recording in VGA mode, advanced Web browsing capabilities (Adobe Flash 8 support, zoom in and out etc.), "easy search" function, Music and Video players, support for microSD and microSDHC cards.

Measuring 108 x 50 x 18.7 millimeters (when closed) and weighing142 grams, F906i includes a battery capable of providing up to three hours of talk-time, up to 340 hours of stand-by time on GSM networks and up to 640 hours of stand-by on 3G networks.

Fujitsu F906i will be available across Japan starting June 5, meaning in three days from now. The handset will be offered by NTT DoCoMo, under the name of FOMA F906i, for a price that is currently unknown (a high one, most probably).

Although a bit less advanced than the F906i, its advantage is that it's waterproof, being able to resist at up to 3 meters underwater. Aside from this, the handset brings a 2.7 inch main display with 240 x 432 pixels and 262K colors, a 2 Megapixel camera with video recording, GSM and 3G connectivity, mobile TV, Media player, email and Web capabilities, expandable memory and so on.

The F706i will also be available via NTT DoCoMo, under the name FOMA F706i, but later than the F906i, in July.
