Fujitsu today announced that Enhance Technology, Inc. is using Fujitsu next-generation Serial interface hard disk drives in its QuadraPack Q14. The storage solution is the industry's first compact removable storage enclosure designed to house four Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or Serial ATA (SATA) 2.5" hard disk drives mounted in a single 5.25" drive bay.

To address the ever increasing demands
for additional storage capacity, Enhance Technology worked closely with the Fujitsu engineering team to create a solution utilizing enterprise-class small form factor (SFF) hard disk drives to develop a 2.5" multi-drive storage enclosure. As a result of the QuadraPack Q14's compact size, potential customers are currently seeking out the unit for advanced storage applications including audio recording, video editing, high performance computing, on-demand streaming media servers, RAID implementations and server storage.

Additionally, the modular design and interface options allow original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), System Integrators and Value Added Resellers (VARs) to offer more capacity with less enclosure real estate, and its hot- swap architecture makes it a perfect building block for dense computing and embedded applications.

The interoperability afforded through the Serial interface backplane is another key benefit of the QuadraPack Q14. The SAS physical layer is compatible with SATA, so users have the choice of populating their systems with 2.5" SAS or SATA hard disk drives, or a combination of both. It also allows the unit to connect with any notebook equipped with a high-speed SAS or SATA host bus adapter (HBA).
