Fujitsu, one of the biggest names on the computing market, announced today the availability of two new series of hard drives. Both series are built as a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive and are designed to offer
support for 24-hour non-stop operation. The two series of hard drives will offer its users a maximum capacity of 250 GB.

The difference between the two models, which are dubbed MHZ2-BK and MHZ2-BS, is given by the rotational speed of their platters. If the former provides a maximum performance rate of 7200 RPM, the latter series can only deliver 5400 RPM. The two new series provided by Fujitsu are designed to offer a high-storage capacity support and enhanced performance to business critical and industrial applications that require higher storage capacity. These hard drives aren't meant for the average home PC users, as their technical specifications provide more power than they require.

There are business areas that require that their servers don't deal with any "rest" time, thus making Fujitsu's offer to work like a charm. These users have to deal with extreme operating demands, which clearly require the very best, high-duty cycle disks can offer.

At this point, Fujitsu's 7200 RPM MHZ2-BK model comes in 80, 120, 160 and 250GB flavors, offering a vast array of products from which the users can choose. These hard drives provide 16 MB of cache and a noise output, in idle mode, of approximately 2.5 bels. The 5400 RPM MHZ2-BS model features slightly lower specifications, with only an 8 MB buffer and a noise output of 2.4 bels. The model can be purchased with either 120 or 250GB capacity.

The slower MHZ2-BS is expected to be available for purchase as soon as the end of this month. Its more high performance counterpart will follow in early July 2008.
