Though media slates are becoming increasingly popular, the need for physical keyboards is still strong, leading PC makers to create and release convertible tablets. Fujitsu has now stepped up and done this very thing, announcing that the LifeBook TH700 has now begun its voyage towards Europe.

Tablet PCs, essentially, are laptops with a unique screen construction that allows them to switch from a notebook form factor to that of a tablet.

The one that Fujitsu will soon send to Europe, the LifeBook TH700, is meant as a traveling companion for business users and has a corresponding hardware layout.

At its heart lies an Intel Core i3-350M central processing unit (CPU) whose core clock is of 2.26 GHz.

This CPU is backed up by 4GB of RAM and the integrated graphics remove the need to add a discrete card.

This lets the machine stay thinner and lighter while still managing a decent video performance, at least one good enough to make the best of the 12-inch WXGA display.

The display itself boasts capacitive touchscreen capabilities that recognize both finger and pen input, and this will be most useful when the tablet form factor is in play.

As for internal storage, Fujitsu threw in a hard disk drive (HDD) of 320GB, though a SSD option is also available for those that value speed over capacity.

Other specifications include a DVD writer, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth, 3G, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, a webcam, a fingerprint reader and a 6-cell battery.

“As more and more mobile computer users choose tablet PCs for their convenience and flexibility, it is also the attention to detail that helps Fujitsu LIFEBOOK models come to the forefront,” said Rajat Kakar, Vice President Workplace Systems at Fujitsu Technology Solutions.

When choosing a tablet PC, it’s important to look for the little touches that make life easier, such as a screen that will twist in both directions, the support for multiple touch, and superior connectivity options,” he added.

The LifeBook TH700 will start shipping in October and will have a starting price tag of roughly 999 Euro.
