You might remember popular kiddie-friendly tablet maker, Fuhu had partnered up with DreamWorks in order to produce a creative slate, entitled the DreamTab.

The slate has been showcased back at CES 2014, but since then we stopped hearing anything about it. Which was a shame, especially when taking into account that DreamWorks is the animation studio behind animated blockbusters such as “Madagascar,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Kung-Fu Panda” and more.

So we were really excited to see what the DreamTab could bring into the picture, in terms of creativity and more.

The good news is that the tablet has re-surfaced again and apparently Fuhu is offering it for about $269 / €197 a pop via Walmart or Target. Other retailers should be picking up the slate in a few, too.

It has been several months since the tablet was introduced, so you might not remember that the device comes with an 8-inch full HD screen (to take advantage of the beautiful DreamWorks enhancements) and draws life form an NVIDIA Tegra 4 quad-core processor fitted with 2GB of RAM.

The specifications aren’t half bad, especially if you consider Fuhu throws in a digital pen too, just for the delight of your little ones. But unlike most typical kiddie tablets, the DreamTab uses the DreamWorks Animation partnership to make the characters, animation and other content as part of the operating system. That sounds delightful.

The tablet is also equipped with a bumper case, so it prevents children from damaging the slate while they use it for work and play. Furthermore, the slate runs on a tweaked version of Android which is child-friendly and manages to leverage age-appropriate apps, games and educational soft.

This includes the Dream Pro Studio, which is a wonderful application for learning drawing and animation techniques with the help of the Dream Pen (a pressure-sensitive stylus from Wacom). Other app goodies range from nabi Konnect instant messaging, photo sharing, email apps and access to other nabi software, like nabi Play or nabi Radio.

Other specifications include NFC, 802.11n, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two cameras (5MP rear one and 2MP front snapper), 16GB of storage and microSD card slot.

Like most kid-friendly slates, the Fuhu DreamTab have a parent mode set-up where adults can make use the of device as if it were a regular Android tablet, featuring the stock Google app launcher and other adult-feats.

The Fuhu seems like a great deal for both children and their parents.
