Just like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids, the Fuhu Nabi 2 is a child friendly slate, but the tweak is, it can be used by adults as well.

Users can either put the 7-inch tablet in its protective case, turn on parental controls and hand it over to the young ones, or take off the protective bumper and use the slate for the usual tablet activities like playing games, surfing the web or watching videos.

The only problem is that up until now users didn't have a whole lot of choices while apps were concerned. Most importantly, the tablet didn't support the Google Play Store, so users had to rely only on the Fuhu App Zone or other third-party store which certainly had a less than varied collection of apps.

However all these woes are in the past now, because the Fuhu is currently getting the over-the-air (OTA) update for Android 4.1 (still outdated, but it’s a step in the right direction) so users will finally be able to tap into their favorite Google apps like Maps, Books, Gmail and Calendar.

The update will certainly turn the Fuhu into a more valuable device for both children and parents, who will have the chance to diversify their standard set of interactions with the tablet.

As a quick refresh, we’re reminding you that the Fuhu Nabi 2 packs a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixel density and is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM.

There’s only 8GB of internal storage to be found, but users can increase it up to 32GB via the microSD card. Apart from that you get Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 and mini HDMI out.

The OTA arrives in two parts, the first one being 415MB and the second 592MB, so keep checking the update center in order to update from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and tap into all the Google goodness.
