Halfbrick, the Australian game developer behind the popular Fruit Ninja for iPhone and iPad, has just released a free ad supported version of Fruit Ninja for Android devices.

Known mostly for its GBA, DS and PSP titles, Halfbrick's business took a positive turn with the success of the Fruit Ninja for iOS.

The company has catapulted to become one of the most well-known indie developers in the world, thanks to its unique and innovative titles that are now available on a broad range of platforms.

Launched last year in September, the paid version of Fruit Ninja for Android is close to reaching 500k downloads, which makes it the Halfbricks main smash hit title.

Fruit Ninja is an action game that challenges player's ability to squish and splat various fruits in a real fruit carnage.

The gameplay is simple and addictive, as players must swipe up across the screen to deliciously slash the fruits like a true ninja warrior.

The application features three games modes in single player and worldwide leaderboards using Openfeint that makes it easier to challenge friends to a game of pure fruit destruction.

The three packed gameplay modes of the game includes: Classic, Zen and Arcade, which features powerups including Freeze, Frenzy and Double Score.

In addition, the bonus Dojo section includes unlockable blades and backgrounds, but players can also unlock achievements and post scores to the online leaderboards with Openfeint.

Halfbrick developed other popular game titles for mobile phones, including Raskulls, Age of Zombies, Monster Dash, Blast Off, Aero Racer, and Echoes.

The free ad supported version of Fruit Ninja is now available for download from Android Market and is compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 or newer.

However, those who don't like ads can choose to download the paid version, which is available for $1.19 AUD.

A paid version for Android devices that embed NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipsets is also available for download via Android Market for $2.99 AUD.
