Doctors in Taiwan have recently had the occasion to treat a woman who was experiencing severe pain not because she was suffering from a serious disease, but because a fruit fly had set up camp inside her ear canal.

Information shared with the public says that the 48-year-old woman asked for help and was admitted to hospital after being in excruciating pain for an entire day.

Doctors at the Tri-Service General Hospital in Taipei decided to inspect her ear canal, and thus stumbled upon the larva, Live Science reports.

Apparently, the tiny creature had spent quite a while inside the woman's body before being discovered, hence the fact that her ear canal had bloody fluid in it and the skin in the eardrum's proximity showed signs of inflammation.

The larva was extracted from inside the patient's ear, and the woman was administered antibiotics. Thanks to this course of treatment, it only took her a couple of weeks to make a full recovery.
