Frugalware, a general purpose Linux distribution, designed for intermediate users (who are not afraid of text mode), is now at version 1.6 Pre2.

Frugalware 1.6 Pre2, codename Fermus, brings a lot of improvements. It's the second technical release that is aimed toward a stable 1.6 version.

The most important changes brought by Frugalware 1.6 Pre2 include Linux kernel 3.1, X.Org Server 1.11.2, KDE SC 4.7.4, Chromium 16.0.912.63, Mozilla Firefox 8.0.1, Blender 2.60, and core EFL component 1.1.0.

Other features that made it in this version are as follows: installer images now use isohybrid on x86 (the developers no longer provide USB images), the default NTP client is Chrony, and services used by the default installation have native systemd units.

Download Frugalware 1.6 Pre2 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only.
