Without any warning, Frozenbyte today started offering its cool fantasy platformer, Trine, with a $0.99/€0.89 price tag in the Mac App Store.

One of the most visually appealing games of its kind, “Trine is a fantasy action platformer with a fairytale-like atmosphere, following the journey of three heroes – a Wizard, a Knight and a Thief – in a quest to save the kingdom from evil,” according to the game’s creators.

Each character has new abilities that can be used in various ways in this fully interactive world with real physics.

Frozenbyte says the OS requirement is OS X 10.6.5 or better, though you can’t have the Mac App Store without OS X 10.6.6. I’m sure I don’t need to spell it out for you. Also, the Mac App Store “Compatibility” section says you can even play it on OS X 10.5 (Leopard).

You need an Intel processor, 1GB of RAM, and an OpenGL 2.0-compatible video card with 256 MB shared or dedicated RAM (ATI or NVIDIA). You’ll also need 600 MB of free disk space to download Trine.
