14 DAY TRIAL // Sprint and Samsung have just confirmed that the white-themed Epic 4G Touch will be available for purchase beginning this Sunday, January 8.
Customers who want to purchase the white flavor of the Epic 4G Touch and are willing to commit to a long-term contract can grab it for only $199.99 (155 EUR) with a new two-year service agreement or eligible upgrade.
The Samsung Epic 4G Touch requires activation on one of the Sprint Everything Data plans, plus a required $10 Premium Data add-on charge for smartphones.
It supports dual-mode 3G/4G networks and runs Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform. Hopefully, Samsung and Sprint will deliver the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in the next few months.
Although the Korean handset maker already confirmed that Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note would receive their Android 4.0 updates in Q1 2012, there’s no telling exactly when the many branded variants of the Galaxy S II get their upgrades.
All in all, the Galaxy S II is currently an appealing device and will become even more so once it gets the Ice Cream Sandwich within the next few months.
The smartphone is equipped with a powerful dual core Exynos CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz, which is complemented by a Mali-400MP graphics processing unit. There’s also 16GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion.
Samsung Epic 4G Touch sports dual-camera, an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, which can also record full HD (1080p) videos, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, ideal for self-portraits or video chat.
The device features a brilliant 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen display with a rather disappointing 800 x 480 resolution. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
The phone’s 1800 mAh Li-Ion battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 252 hours of standby time or up to 9 hours of talk time.
